Brut 2020 Cuvée Robert Louth

£36.00

First disgorgement: December 2024
First release date (after being left ‘on cork’) : June 2025

Pressed, fermented and bottled at Offbeat Wines by our winemaker, Daniel Ham. The grapes were hand-harvested and whole bunch pressed. The wine underwent a secondary fermentation in bottle and then spent 40 months on its yeast lees and a further 6 months resting ‘on cork’ — much longer than usual.  In the spring of 2020 (Lockdown Year) we suffered a catastrophic frost in late May, yet the summer was long and fabulous.  Consequently, a very small harvest. Disgorged in December 2024 and released in June 2025. Named after Robert Louth, my vineyard partner (1953-2024). An unrepeatable vintage just like the man.

Tasting notes

‘An opulent and pronounced nose of bruised orchard fruits, kefir, toasted lime, and yellow plum. Raspberry sorbet in support from the 40% pinot noir inclusion. In common with the rosé — perhaps becoming a trademark of the house style — a faint 'Middle Eastern' quality presents in orange blossom and pomegranate. ‘How can this wine only be 11.5%? It has the weight, power and gastronomic quality of a vintage champagne. Broad and powerful, almost heady, with burnt orange rind, toasted sourdough, stewed apple & sultana, and an almost brandy-like quality on the finish. The extended lees ageing here (40 months) has certainly defined the style, bringing a deep autolytic character to the palate. But not as cover up — more as well applied make-up — just enough to bring out the natural features of this most extraordinary vintage. A wine for gastronomes.’

Polly Gibson DipWSET Certified Educator, June 2025
