Tours
Winding Wood Vineyard is a certified organic and biodynamic vineyard that produces English sparkling wine. We are ‘boutique’ in the sense that we have just two small fields of vines. However, we think small can be beautiful. We take infinite care over each vine as we know that our wine maker only wants the best grapes. The wines have won many gold medals and in 2024 we achieved the top trophy at two national wine competitions.
The vineyard. There is no formal itinerary to each tour but it normally kicks off in the yard of what was an ancient farmstead dating back, we believe, to Anglo Saxon times, commencing with a brief history of farm and the vineyard which was planted in 1993. We then take a short walk to inspect at close quarters the chardonnay and pinot noir vines. There is always lots of discussion over what levels of canopy management are required during the season and what stage we are at in the growing season; when and how we prepare for harvest; and importantly discussions of biodynamic and organic viticulture versus conventional grape growing.
The tasting room. This forms part of a beautiful oak framed 18th century threshing barn overlooking the vineyard. We talk in depth about the various stages of vine to wine: from harvest to making traditional sparkling wine/champagne at the Offbeat winery in Salisbury. In particular, we describe the two separate fermentations essential to making traditional method’ wine. We have display boards with diagrams showing each stage of production with photos of the winery equipment, eg wine presses, fermenting tanks and oak barrels, bottling line etc.

We can create a package for each business to suit, be it a wine tasting experience, wine tours, blind tastings, talks on the exciting English wine scene, particularly the organic and regenerative practices employed at Winding Wood. We partner with a trusted local chef who provides gourmet menus that complement our wines for either lunches or early evening dinners. These can be run over a half day or full day. Enquire direct with Christopher Cooke (07798 885050) the vineyard at hello@windingwoodvineyard.co.uk or Polly Gibson (07761 934936) at polly@winewithpolly.co.uk .

We produce only English sparkling wine.
While we do not make the wine here ourselves we are intimately involved at every stage of its making. We will take you through all the processes that occur at the winery (based just outside Salisbury). There will be a display board of the winery equipment and the processes the grapes go through from vine to wine.
